Indie filmmakers are assuming that distributors will be interested in their films.
Because the film is loved by the public, they believe distributors will be interested in it.
But, it is very rare that this happens. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.
They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.
They might delay the release of low-budget films until after the summer blockbuster series has begun.
Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.
After all, they don't want to lose out on those profits.
How many theaters would I need in order to get my money back?
It depends on how many weeks you plan to make your theatrical production.

How To
How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star is a symbol of someone who contributed to the production of motion pictures, television, radio and theater or other aspects popular culture. The HWOF currently lists 1,922 people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, a certificate will be sent to you stating that you are eligible. This includes your name as well as date of birth and the city where you live. A bronze plaque with your personalization is also provided. This plaque is attached on a concrete base at the star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews all the nominations before deciding whether or not they are approved. If they decide to approve, they write a letter to the address of the applicant explaining their decision. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.
The department issues a check payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, which sends the check to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The fee is then paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at $12.50. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.
Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. To be eligible to list on the HWOF you will need to pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce all outstanding balance. The amount due will vary depending on how long ago you were nominated. If you were first honoured in 1990, then you would owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.
You can remove yourself from HWOF by contacting the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to pay the rest of your debt. They will remove your name from this list.
How old is one to be eligible for a HWOF Star?
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a coveted star, one must be at least 18 years old. A star can be renominated after 10 years.

Why can't people choose to use a different street than having stars all over the place?
The HWOF isn't meant to be an historical monument. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.
