FAQ

What is the difference in a distributor and a producer?

The movie is produced by a producer. The movie is distributed via a distributor. A distributor can distribute the movie to theaters or other companies such as Netflix. Distributors purchase movies directly from producers. They then sell them on to theaters or cable channels, as well as streaming services.

Distributors should negotiate with theater owners regarding where their movies are playing. This means that certain movies might be more expensive at some theaters than others. A distributor should have multiple theaters in order to ensure that your movie is seen by as many people possible.

Over half of the world’s population is found in overseas markets.

Many people will want to see your movie even though they may not have the opportunity to watch it at home.

How many theaters do I need to make back my investment?

It all depends on how long your theatrical release will be running.

If you're planning to run your film for less than two weeks, you only need to open one theater.

You will need at least two theaters if you plan to keep your film running for more than 2 weeks.

Why are so few independent films ever distributed?

Indie filmmakers often assume that distributors will pick up their films.

They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.

However, this is seldom the case. Independent filmmakers are often used by distributors.

They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.

They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.

Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.

They don’t want to miss out on these profits.

What do actors earn?

An actor's pay can vary from $1,000,000 per movie to below $100,000 for independent films. The typical actor earns around $10,000 to $20,000 per movie. However, many actors are not paid at all. It all depends on their success. There are actors who make millions and others who struggle to find work.
