FAQ
What's the difference between an indie film and a foreign language film?
A film made independently is typically done by one filmmaker, who makes all the decisions.
On the other hand, a foreign language film is typically produced by a larger production team.
They often hire actors, writer, and directors from abroad.
Professional translators are also available to ensure that the dialogue sounds natural.
How much does Hollywood make a year?
Production costs on average for a movie are around $100 million. So if you made ten movies a year for a decade, you'd have enough money to buy a small country.
You would own your own island, with an airport, a power plant, a bank, a post office, a police force, a fire department, a school system, a hospital, a zoo, a sports stadium, a theater, and a cinema.
If that doesn’t sound like fun, you must be insane.
Why did Hollywood become famous?
The answer was simple. It became famous because they were willing to take risks and do something different. They made films that people would recall for years.
They were open to new ideas and had the courage of trying them out.
Why are so few independent films ever distributed?
Indie filmmakers tend to assume that distributors will buy their films.
They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.
But this is rare. Distributors often benefit from independent filmmakers.
They will use techniques such as delaying the release of a movie until after the awards season has ended.
They delay the release of a low-budget movie until after the summer blockbuster seasons has started.
Distributors may also keep films from the public until people have already spent hundreds of money on tickets, popcorn or candy.
After all, they don't want to lose out on those profits.

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who made motion pictures, television or radio, as well as music and other aspects of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a member of the HWOF, you must submit your name to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then submits your name to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. After being approved, you will be issued a certificate stating your name, date and place of birth. It also includes information about your occupation, occupation and category. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached to a concrete base located in front of the designated Star.
If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. The nominations are evaluated by a committee, which then decides whether or not to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce then sends $25 to the City of Los Angles Department of Cultural Affairs.
The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.
Once the artist receives his/her star he/she will be eligible to be inducted into the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due is dependent on the number of years since you were first recognized. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.
Contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get your name removed from the HWOF and to repay any outstanding debts. They will remove you from the list.
How old must one be to get a HWOF star
When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a star, one must be alive at that time. A star can be renominated after 10 years.
What happens if I die before my star gets put up?
Your family members can nominate you for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.
Why can't we just choose a different street and not have stars all over?
The HWOF was not created to be a historical landmark. It is meant to honor those who contributed to film history.
What happened with the stars that were stolen? The thieves stole approximately 1,200 stars. Each star is between 250-300 lbs. If you add all of the weight together, it comes to approximately 4 tons of stars!
