FAQ

How many films does Hollywood make in a given year?

Hollywood studios make approximately 3,000 films annually. Three thousand!

Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions on their production. They spend millions to promote them. But how many end up actually getting seen in the theaters, do you think?

The answer is probably around 200-300. What happens to the 2,700+ other films? The majority of these films are either direct-to video releases or sit in storage.

But not all of them are destined to go unseen. Some of these have been selected to be distributed via Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu Plus.

Hence, why aren't there more of them? They're not available in theaters. They are too expensive for production.

And if they were cheaper to produce, they'd be released into theaters.

Can I start my own distribution company?

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF) was established in 1960 by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The HWOF is located at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents an individual who contributed to popular culture, such as television, radio or theater. There are currently 1,922 active individuals on the HWOF.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. The second letter is sent to the applicant confirming acceptance of the nomination if the person accepts it. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues a check payable the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which then sends the check directly to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays any artist or organization that submitted an application. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce pays half of the $12.50 fee to the artist or organization. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs takes the other half.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be included in the HWOF, your balance must be paid to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The amount due depends on how many years ago you were first nominated. For example, if you were first nominated in 1990, you would owe $15,000. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

What age is required to become a HWOF star?

Nominations are open to anyone over 18 years of age. To be eligible for a star, you must still be alive. One can still be nominated after receiving a star after ten years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place an honorary marker in front of the star if there are no living relatives.

Why don't people just use a different street instead of having stars all over the place?

The HWOF does not intend to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to the stars that got stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
