FAQ
Is Hollywood more important than Bollywood?
Producers face the greatest challenge of making sure their movie is seen by viewers.
Problem is, there are many films competing for viewers' time and money. You won't be noticed if your movie isn't unique.
But what makes a movie successful? What makes an actor famous or a director? Or a director? It's not just talent - it's also luck. No matter how talented your actors are, if they have poor scripts, it will be impossible to get the job done.
And when it comes to films, there are two main types: big-budget blockbusters and small independent productions. Blockbuster films can cost hundreds and millions of dollars to make and distribute. These movies are often made by large studios that want their films to reach as many people as possible. But, these high-budget films are more appealing to older audiences.
Independent films, which are typically smaller-scale productions, can be financed either by individual investors or groups. These films are often targeted at niche markets and appeal to particular tastes. These films are typically less expensive to produce and sell. This doesn't necessarily mean they are cheaper to watch. It is actually very difficult to find most indie movies.
The question is whether we need both types. What are the best movies for independent cinema? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood makes almost twice the number of movies each year than India.
Why is it that so few independent films are ever released?
Indie filmmakers often assume that distributors will pick up their films.
They are certain distributors will take their films, as they know that the public will love them.
But, it is very rare that this happens. Distributors often use independent filmmakers.
They employ tactics like delaying a movie's release until after awards season has ended.
They also delay the release date for a low-budget film until the summer blockbuster movie season has begun.
Distributors try to keep films out of the hands of audiences until they've spent hundreds on tickets, popcorn, and candy.
They don't wish to lose those profits.
How many movies does Hollywood make a year?
Each year, Hollywood studios produce approximately 3,000 films. Yes, that's correct, three thousand!
Hollywood spends billions on advertising for these films. They spend millions on their production. And they spend millions promoting them. How many end up being released in theaters?
The answer is probably around 200-300. What happens then to the 2,700+ remaining films? Most of them are either released direct-to-video or just sit in storage.
Not all of them will be undiscovered. Some of them were selected for distribution via Netflix Prime, Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus, iTunes or Google Play.
So why don't we see more of them? Why aren't they released in theaters? Because they are too expensive to make.
They could also be made cheaper and put into theaters.

A committee evaluates the nominations and decides whether to approve them. If they do, they will send a letter explaining their decision to the applicant at his/her home address. A second letter confirms acceptance if the nominee accepts the nomination.
